Five years later, he joined the C.N.R.S. then began to carry out internships in Great Britain in renowned virology laboratories. In Carshalton, in the laboratory of F. Eight months later, at the Glasgow Institute of Virology, then headed by Michael Stocker, he demonstrated, with Ian McPherson, a new specific property of cancer cells: their ability to grow in suspension in a gelled medium. This method is still widely used today, including for the clonal growth of human tumor cells.
