Andre Harrell Death, Dead, Obituary : A veteran Music Executive Dies.

By | May 9, 2020

Andre Harrell, a veteran music executive best known as the founder of Uptown Records, where Sean “Puffy” Combs got his start in the business, who later went on to head Motown Records, has died. He was 59. The cause of death is as yet unclear.

Andre Harrell was the founder of the record label, Uptown Records. Harrell also served as president/CEO of Motown Records. He was the first half of the hip hop duo Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde. Harrell is perhaps most known as the man that turned Diddy into a music mogul.

Ahmed/Ramadan, I’m ready for you.
This Andre Harrell news hurts, this man was an innovator and open doors not just for Diddy, Jodeci, Heavy D, Mary J. Blige and many others but he changed the landscape of R&B and Hip Hop with Uptown Records. Without him we wouldn’t hear these sounds getting sampled now.

BET was producing a mini-series based on Uptown Records as told by Andre Harrell. I’m not sure what stage of production they were in pre-COVID, but it is my hope that we still get that series.

I hope the world understands what Andre Harrell did.

Just thinking of the legacy Andre Harrell blessed us with people like Heavy D & the Boyz, Mary J. Blige, Guy, Jodeci, Soul for Real, Father MC. Al B. Sure!, Eddie F, Teddy Riley, Diddy, Russell Simmons,  Biggie.
Rest his soul, blessings to his family.

Aye throw that Boyz II Men on
This Andre Harrell news sucks. His legacy to me will always be that of a visionary who saw all the magic that could come from the worlds of r&b and hip hop colliding with groundbreaking acts like Guy, Mary J Blige and Jodeci. RIP to a giant.

Without Andre Harrell, you get no P Diddy, no Mary J, no Guy, no Heavy D, no Biggie, no Soul 4 Real.. none of that! LEGEND

We may have never known  Diddy or Mary J. Blige if it wasn’t for him.
Founder of Uptown Records who housed Heavy D., Al B. Sure, Jodeci, Biggie, and Guy amongst other acts.
The 90’s wouldn’t have been the same without Andre Harrell.
Rest in peace.
