Byron Preiss has died, according to a statement posted online on May. 16, 2020.
We learned of the deceased through the following tribute posted on social media.,
I have a serious fan theory going right now.
Help me out.
I was watching Expedition Unknown with Josh Gates and there was an episode about the book “The Secret A Treasure Hunt” and as I watched I instantly felt like there were connections and similarities to James Halliday’s quest in “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline.
Byron Preiss who was the mastermind behind these puzzles for treasure has passed on and left behind a Treasure Hunt using complex puzzles with the use of poems and imagery. This imagery and influence came from things that meant a lot to him, sounding a lot like the story of James Halliday and his quest he left behind for someone to win control his company.
Like Halliday, Preiss also used complex imagery and riddles for his clues, thinking they would be easy to figure out and solve, and ended up creating something much more complex then intended. Last, like Halliday, Preiss would never live to see his treasure hunt finished, and would carry all his secrets to the grave.
I also seen an instant connection to the character Ogden Morrow as the survivor of the two creators of the original company, and John Jude Palencar one of the surviving creators and illustrator of “The Secret” because he makes it clear that even if he did know anything he wouldn’t spill the beans, and makes mention that he’s under contract to keep his mouth shut. Last in Palencar’s statement to the treasure hunters seeking information from him he pushes them to enjoy the spirit of the hunt, much like how Morrow encourages egg hunters to embrace the spirit of the game.
Anyone agree that these two are eerily similar?
