It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of another Blue Devil family member, Chris Slater.
Chris joined the Blue Devils as a snare drummer in 2007 and after taking the summer of 2008 off for knee surgery, came back to march his age-out year in 2009.
I remember sitting with Chris during the 2008 Denver show drum line warmups while he talked about how to make improvements for the upcoming 2009 year. I was impressed by his vision and eagerness to assume a leadership role. He certainly carried through on that vision – as section leader in 2009 he led the drum line to an undefeated season, both in the percussion caption and overall corps.
Chris returned to Blue Devils for the 2012 and 2013 seasons as a valuable member of the percussion staff.
Chris was a mentor and teacher to many, and a brother and friend to all. His smile was warm and sincere, and his positive energy infectious. He will be dearly missed.
RIP my brother, my friend.
Today is extra hard. We lost one of the most beautiful souls. Chris Slater. I’ve known him for ten years and he played with @odesza for most of the AMA tour on the drum line. This is a really hard.. he will he missed by so many💜 pic.twitter.com/Uy7Mz5jftx

I keep wanting it to not be real. Chris Slater you were so loving, kind, compassionate and a dreamer. Your smile and genuine soul could brighten up any room. We share memories that no one, no amount of distance, nor any amount of time between talking, could ever take away from us. Seeing your name pop up on my phone always brought a smile to my face. I’ve been staring at our texts from last month wishing I could send you a message and get a response. You were taken from this world far too soon and I am going to miss you so very much. One day we will meet again and sit under the stars, just like old times. Love you 💙 RIP
