Dr. Christopher Firlit has died, according to a statement posted online on April. 4, 2020.
We learned of the deceased through the following tribute posted on social media.,
This is Dr. Christopher Firlit, a 37 year old maxillofacial surgery resident who just passed away from presumed COVID. He leaves behind a wife and 3 kids, and was 3 months away from graduation.
I worked with him when we were interns together in Vermont, and he was one of the best people I ever worked with. He was a great man, great doctor, and always spoke so well about his wife and his excitement to be a father (his wife was pregnant at the time; this was 6-7 years ago). He had a wild life before he became a doctor, and was even a deep sea fishing boat captain in San Diego at some point before going to dental school. He was always able to make friends with anyone and cared so much about his patients. This is a terrible loss.
Please be careful and stay the hell home so that more people don’t have to die from this disease. Including residents who are on the front lines 80+ hours per week and risking their lives for little pay in the hopes they can eventually become a “real” doctor at the end. (Not to mention all the doctors, nurses, EMTs, therapists, medical assistants, transport staff, housekeeping, IT, cafeteria workers, and everyone else who put themselves in harms way each day to keep the hospitals open with sub-adequate protection and unknown support during this pandemic).
Cause of Death.
The following are some tributes posted on social media to honor the life and the legacy of the deceased.
Everyone of these losses breaking my heart. My I have the strength of character to continue to feel utter sadness for each and every one we will not have here with us any longer. Christopher Firlit was an amazing person. https://t.co/bichnhkbVV

One of the first resident physicians to die from likely COVID19 related complications is Christopher Firlit DMD, MD, OMFS Chief Resident in Michigan. We signed up to fight for our patients, but never did we imagine it’d be at the cost us our own lives #GetUsPPE #stayhome @choo_ek https://t.co/ONTU2g2hdb pic.twitter.com/tdsCaNdQQt
