Family and friends are mourning the death of Texas oil magnet , Clayton Williams who recently passed away.
We learned of the deceased through the following tribute posted on social media by Jack Morgan
Clayton Williams has died. I’ve got an odd little “Claytie” story: a couple of years after his gubernatorial run against Ann Richards–I took a trip out west, my first trip to the Chisos Mountains of the Big Bend. I stopped in to a steak house in Ft. Stockton to load up on carbs before the next day’s hike.
I was at the table closest to the cash register and Williams and a bud walked up to pay for their meal. I was pretty fascinated that it was him, but what was more interesting was what he was saying. “…and after she finished saying that I went ahead and told her I was recording every last word! Boy, was she mad!”
They both fell deeply into Good-old-boy laughter, slapping one another’s backs and hoo-hawing like they were written into some bad Hollywood movie that had a couple of quintessential Texan types.
They paid up and left and it was all I could do not to follow them out and demand who it was he had recorded…and what had she said?!
Clayton Williams, a hall of famer in the oil industry, one-time Texas gubernatorial candidate and avid Texas A&M supporter, died late Friday in Midland, according to reports.
