Come see “Challenger” the Eagle at Marion this Saturday.

Marion, VA (MARKET NEWS) : Challenger, the famous America’s Bald Eagle is coming to Marion for all to see, yes you can meet him.

The Eagle called Challenger lived in American Eagle Foundation located at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. Born in the year 1989 , he turns 30 this year.

Before retiring this year, Challenger has trilled fans everywhere he goes, from coast to coast performing free-flight appearances and gloved appearances at national sporting events, conventions, conference, galas, fundraisers, schools and other events, the Bald Eagle did this for the past 25 years of his life.

The challenger was rescued by humans after he  was blown from a wild nest in Louisiana during a storm, after that he remain with humans and was feed by people and as a result, he experienced too much human contact and now depend on humans to feed him.

Unfortunately challenger can’t cope or live without humans, an attempt to release him to the wild failed on several occasions. He was transferred to the Audubon Zoo of New Orleans.

Several attempts was made to release him to the wild by zookeepers , but each but each time he ended up landing near people to beg for food, as a result, he was placed into the care of the American Eagle Foundation by fish and wildlife agencies.

He was called Challenger to honor the fallen crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger.

Challenger is the first Bald Eagle in U.S. history to be trained to free-fly in major sports stadiums, arenas and ballrooms during the National Anthem. He has performed over 350 free flight demonstrations over the years and has his image on a Tennessee specialty license plate.

Are planning to come meet Challenger ?, the Collins House Inn Bed and Breakfast in downtown Marion will have a “Meet and Greet” with Challenger at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the gazebo before his presentation at the Lincoln Theater. The meet greet is free to attend, however gifts are acknowledged with 100% of gifts profiting the American Eagle Foundation.

Saturday’s show at the Lincoln Theater will feature James Rogers, the Marion Senior High School Chorus and the First United Methodist Church Children’s Choice performing Christmas melodies and a tribute to the military. Tickets are $15 for grown-ups and $10 for understudies and kids.
