Daisy ColemanDeath – Dead : Daisy ColemanObituary : Sexual Assault Advocate Dies by Suicide.
Daisy Coleman, a sexual assault victim-turned-advocate who garnered small-town backlash when she spoke out about her alleged attack, has died by suicide, according to a statement posted online on Aug. 5, 2020.
Coleman’s mother, Melinda, shared the news on Facebook on Tuesday.
“My daughter Catherine Daisy Coleman committed suicide tonight,” Melinda Coleman wrote. “If you saw crazy messages and posts it was because I called the police to check on her. She was my best friend and amazing daughter. I think she had to make it seem like I could live without her. I can’t. I wish I could have taken the pain from her! She never recovered from what those boys did to her and it’s just not fair. My baby girl is gone.” Peoples Magazine reported.

Well this news just breaks my heart.
I had just watched the documentary about her devastating story on Netflix: “Audrie & Daisy”
It tackles the complicated topic of sexual assault….& surviving assault in the age of social media.
Please watch this film if you haven’t already. We owe it to Daisy to keep this conversation going.
Rest In Peace & Love & Light, Daisy. You fought the good fight for as long as you could. I pray we as a society never let your death be in vain. You were let down in too many ways.
postscript: “Audrie” in the documentary died by suicide….by hanging….on September 12, 2012…..just NINE DAYS following her sexual assault. She was 15. Two years later CA Governor Jerry Brown signed into effect AUDRIE’S LAW.
Morgan N’ Joe Burton wrote Would you say this documentary is appropriate for teens/preteens? Wondering if I should let my son watch with me or not?
Patricia Newcum Todd wrote Morgan N’ Joe Burton…. After I watched it I found this discussion guide for parents. I found it very helpful. Irregardless I would watch it first without your children….so you already know what it is going to show & talk about. I hope this helps
Joy Rhiddlehoover wrote Gut wrenching. Heart breaking. Her poor tired soul – all brought on by a horrendous crime… 🙏🏻
Patricia Newcum Todd wrote Ashley Matchett Pigg Stephanie Oliver Katherine Thrash Diggs This made me think of your group LIT. Lots of important….& difficult….conversation starters for our young women in today’s world.
Janine Magree wrote This story makes me tearful. A beautiful young girl’s life ruined… and now her family has to endure a life without her in the physical. So much potential lost because of a thoughtless brutal, not to mention criminal act.
Jane Carruthers wrote Heartbreak for everyone here. I hope her spirit is flying with angels right now.
Joan Johnson wrote I never knew of this. Until Amy’s death I knew very little about suicide and how it can touch any family. Not just the Robin Williams and famous people.
