Professor Dan Clawson of University of Massachusetts Amherst have passed away. The cause of his death has not been released to the public as at the time of this report.
He was a professor of Sociology and Family Research . His research focuses on labor movements and labor policies in the United States, and their impact on the well-being of families. Dr. Clawson’s research is very widely cited and well received outside academic circles, as well as having had an immense impact within his discipline. He has served as president of the faculty union and the Massachusetts Society of Professors (affiliated with the National Education Association), and as editor of the journal Contemporary Sociology and co-editor of the Rose Series in Sociology. So sad to learn of Dan Clawson’s death. He was a model of how to blend academic rigour and political commitments. His work on labor, corporate power, and un/paid work won accolades, while his organizing inspired so many and made a real difference. He will he sorely missed.
