- Freedawg and I started out about the same time…great friend, relentless defender, always pleasant, always professional…always ready for a camera….makes no sense…Covid is so damned random and cruel…. I pray the the promised blessings of courage and comfort be upon his family and all who mourn…

He was a mentor to me when I was a baby lawyer at Crumpler Freedman Parker and Witt. He will be missed mightily.

David Freedman used to be on the juvenile appointed list and was everything you said. He was generous with his time even for the smallest of juvenile cases. He was kind and always a friend to me v

I tried one jury trial with a co defendant way back in the day as a baby. He was an amazing mentor. A few years back I tried a civil jury trial against him. He was just as nice and a pleasure to litigate a case with. David was a giant in so many ways. He will be sorely missed.

My story with David was similar. We were on the same side of the v on a civil case 10-11 years ago when I hung out my shingle as a third year lawyer. He and Dudley Witt were so gracious. Offered their time and wisdom to a young lawyer never being haughty or dismissive. Great lawyer and guy. Will miss him around Winston.

“Whip-smart,” a tough competitor and to this ADA, simply “maddeningly effective.”
What I remember more than anything is his inhuman ability to never be truly angry. He was the happiest person I’ve ever known. He always had that look, even in the middle of a murder trial, that he was a nanosecond away from a huge laugh.
Underneath it all, he was he was just a gangly, loveable “goofball.” What a loss, not just of a lawyer but of a larger than life personality. Smile down on us, my friend.
- Mr. Freedman has represented me several times. I was addicted to pills and he saved my life and never judged me. I visited him with such reverence and respect. My heart feels empty to me because you were like a friend to me. I miss you Mr. Freedman. I am praying for your family. Most sincerely and respectfully,Wesley Livengood III
