Eric Cummings, you truly inspired me. I wanted to become a runner because of you. That day I missed the XC info meeting back in 7th grade, we met up afterwards at a RHS football game and we had an instant connection and I knew I wanted to join the team.
You gave me a new passion at such a young age. Throughout the years, you lifted me up during some of my most difficult times I’ve experienced. You were like a second Dad to me. You truly had my best interest at heart and always had my back. You were an important childhood memory, the best coach, supporter, and responsible for so many positive and key moments of my life.
I figured out how strong I could be through you and also made such great friends on your team throughout the years. Through your encouragement and strength I pursued a running career in college. You are hugely responsible for me choosing Converse College.
At Converse, I found myself, made even more close friends, stayed active, and found my soon to be husband. You were essential to my life in ways you never knew.
Our last conversation was actually the day before I got engaged. I randomly decided to text coach that all his “favorite runners” were at the beach together.
He asked who was there, and I told him. He joked as he did, about some of us not being his favorites and was happy we were together.
The call I received took me by such surprise when I heard the news last night, you touched the lives of so many. All of the love and support given on Facebook is only the tip of the surface of our emotions during this time, but so incredible to see.
I scrolled through some posts from memory lane an hour ago. I have to say, my grammar was horrible, but also our team was so close and LOVED the program he built. We looked forward to long runs and practices with each other. Being on your team was an honor but knowing you was even more than I can put into words.
My heart goes out to the Cummings family. Please rest easy, you are a legend who is loved
Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior I am going on a run today in honor of Coach with all of our memories with him and because of him in mind. Please share more memories about him! I love hearing it all!
