It is with mixed emotions that I have just heard the news that one of the world’s premier Evangelists, Reinhard Bonnke, has gone to be with his beloved Jesus.
Speaking on behalf of many millions in Africa, we thank God for his life. What an inspiration he has been to many, especially myself.
I remember as a young Christian going to listen to him in Pietermaritzburg, Kwazulu-Natal, and to be totally overwhelmed and encouraged by his faith in Jesus Christ. I remember him clearly calling out a lady in a wheelchair, sitting in the front row,
“Tonight, my dear sister, you are going to walk”.
I had never seen or heard anything like it in my life before. He then walked off the platform, walked up and laid his hands upon her and prayed a simple prayer and this woman got up out of the wheelchair and started walking and the whole tent went absolutely ecstatic when they saw the Power of God, moving.
On the eve of the It’s Time prayer meeting in Bloemfontein, I was standing on the airstrip, waiting for the plane to collect me and I phoned this dear man of God and he encouraged me and said he would love to be with me, not to preach but to sit with me on the platform. He spoke from his Florida home in the USA and encouraged me to press on.
And so, Annie and the family, I thank you for what your husband has meant to me personally and to all in our beloved Africa. May he rest in peace and I can hear the voice of The Master saying, “Well done, you good and faithful servant, come and enter into your rest”.
Yours in Christ’s service,
