Fran McKendree joined us at Music Camp at ECC for five incredible summers, helping us write an original song based on our summer theme, and bringing us SO much love, light, and joy.
Fran was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago. We made him this video, given to him on his birthday last month, to express our love and support. The song used in the video is our 2019 theme song, recorded by members of our camp community.
Fran died early this morning, and we are broken-hearted. But his light and music and love will live on in each of us. Fran’s love truly was the energy.

I first received the gift of Fran’s music when my sister came back from the National Episcopal Youth Event held in Oklahoma in 1983 or ’84 with a cassette tape of the recordings of music that was made together during that convention led by Fran, Barb Siftar, and another musician whose name escapes me. It was from that cassette tape that I first learned “Shut De Do'”, and we (my family) played it and sang along to that album until it literally broke. In my own middle and high school years in the late ’80’s/early ’90’s Fran (along with Barb Siftar still & two other musicians) offered their music and lifted those of us present to offer ours at Supernightwatch events at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC. Fran’s music ministry touched my life close to 40 years ago, still sings in my heart, and always will.
