Dear Frances Rosenbluth. I still cannot believe that you passed away. You have been a role model for me and for everyone. Without your support, encouragement, and friendship since I met you at Yale in 1994, I would not have been a political scientist. I am, like so many others, extremely sad. We miss you a lot. I will try my best to do what you did for me and others — develop a community of students and scholars; in particular, Japanese politics and political economy. Thank you again for coming to the conference that I organized in Summer 2019. I still can’t believe that this photo is the last photo. Thank you for everything. We miss you… 8787 14 Comments 1 Share Like Share

Thank you for your profound impact on our father. I am sure that he will continue to make you proud. I have never met you, but thank you.
Thank you for writing this note. It is hard to think of another comparative political scientist, whose primary country specialization was Japan, with such wide-ranging theoretical & empirical contributions, and so many students, advisees. & friends. A devastating loss.
My sincere condolences. I feel this loss also because I know and admire Frances’s work and expected I would have the pleasure of meeting her some day. I have now lost that possibility. Compounding this loss is that we lost another talented and kind specialist of Japanese politics just two days ago, and someone I did have the pleasure of knowing: Tsuneo Akaha.
Indeed Prof Rosenbluth was the role model for every student. I confirmed this when I met her again in Naval Hall in London to chat hours. I was so gald when she joined Waseda manegerial board but never expected she would be gone in this way in such a short term. So sad
