I’m sorry please hug Gino tight and long for me. I’m glad his dad was able to fight the good fight long enough to see Gino become a good man both on and off the basketball court like his DAD.
He will forever live on in your hearts.

Sad to hear of basketball player and coach Gene Littles passing away at 78. Gene was a star at High Point College before spending most of his pro career as a Carolina Cougar, my favorite pro sport team in my life. Gene also was the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets. One of the coolest things to me was that my sister Sarah Sue, who was on the board of directors of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, called Gene and was the one to tell him that he had been selected to be inducted into the hall of Fame. She said he was genuinely surprised and really thankful for the honor. I talked to Gene and his son Gene Jr. at the induction. A class act and a really good person, the world would be a better place if more athletes were like Gene Littles.

I grew up going to all home HPC basketball games and Gene was my first ever favorite player. Seemed to be a class act. Yes, I too had my Carolina Cougars gear because of Gene.

HIgh Point Purple Panthers starting lineup as I recall: Danny Whitt point guard, Gene Littles swing guard, Jim Colbert small forward, Steve Tagenhorst power forward, Jim Pica center. Gene was the epidemy of class both on and off the court.
