So I experienced my first Character death today,
I was playing a Half orc Paladin and we were fighting a Death knight, about 16 Skeletons, 2 red wizards, and 3 wyverns. The death night was casting a black fire, soul spell (I forgot the name) and it would have killed the party. In a previous session, I purchased 2 powder kegs and we’re saving them for something like this. I turned to my party and bid them farewell, giving a subtle, then charging through 3 skeletons, shoving my powder kegs into his fire spell. I took the damage from his spell and used my relentless endurance to come back to 1 hp, With my final breath, I hurled a final retort at the death knight. As the smoke cleared, several of the skeletons, a wyvern, and the death knight were all dead. It was a glorious end to a fine story.
Nice, love a good heroic sacrifice. Had a wizard blow all his teleports evacuating the party from a hopeless fight, knowing he didn’t have enough prepared for himself.
Hope the DM rewards you someway. My guy was reincarnated as a Hound Archon(he had an affinity for dogs) that was a spirit guide for the party, and I tend to create custom items related to PCs that die, like a great sword with spell resistance for a mage fighter.
I’m supposed to be fighting a death knight with my party tomorrow. We discussed tactics and plan to polymorph him, and I (as the aarakokra) will fly him up two hundred feet, so he takes that 20D6 fall dmg off the bat. We’ve called it Operation: Knight Fall.
If we don’t succeed, I hope to go out in half the blaze of glory you did.
We fought a Death Knight at around level 9. He’d been build up as a huge threat for about 8 sessions. As he is dismounting my dwarven fighter says “I though you’d be taller.” He then drops his big AOE ability on me and not the whole party. I drop unconscious, but my job as the tank succeded….sorta…
