Gil Barakat Death – Dead :  Gil Barakat Obituary : Cause of Death Unknown

Gil Barakat has died, according to a statement posted online on May. 21, 2020.

We learned of the deceased through the following tribute posted on social media.,

I knew Gil for 50 years and he was a major factor in my life.

I loved telling people about Gil Barakat who was a Mr holland opus in a small town in Nebraska (his first teaching job fresh out of college) when we visited him there. He was a beloved Music teacher, when he left small town near oshkosh nebraska (lived on a farm) then move to Boston, the entire town came out for a farewell party. Just like in the movie.

The first time I meet Gil. When I was 15 and Gil and Danny Orangier came down driving down blossom ave in Flushing Queens in his blue ford van fresh out of the army as a tank driver. Looking to play music with a local music hero Jimmy Sferes . At 15 years old 21 looks older, but now at 65 years old 71 seem even. He smile was contagious

His music always brought joy. He was always a major part of my life.

I met my old friend

On the street last night

he seemed so glad to see me

I just smiled

And we talked about some old times

And we drank ourselves some beers

He was Still Gill after all these years

Oh Still Gill after all these years

I’m not the kind of man

Who tends to socialize

I seem to lean on

Old familiar ways

And I ain’t no fool for friend songs

That whisper in my ears

Gill still crazy after all these years

Oh still crazy after all these years

Four in the morning and found I in morning

Crapped out talking

Yawning and morning

Longing my life away

I’ll never worry

Why should I?

It’s all gonna fade

Now I sit by my window

And I watch the cars

I fear I’ll do some damage

One fine day

But I would not be convicted

By a jury of my peers

But Gil is gone after all these years

Remebering Gil Barakat encouraging me to join the first chorus he was putting together at Carver Elementary School back in the 80’s. We preformed Taco’s Putting on the Ritz. A bunch of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders dressed in black, styling plastic top hats. One of many happy childhood memories. Gil was one of a kind. ❤️

Enjoy Taco’s video to the song “Puttin’ On The Ritz” which was released on his debut album “After Eight” in 1982. Remember to subscribe to stay up to date wi…
