Government Shutdown 2020: Utilities to Suspend Disconnections for Households in New York.
New York State Governor, Andrew Cuomo has directed the New York State Department of Public Service to ensure that customer across the state does lose power as a result of the Corona Virus shutdown. The arrangement was to ensure no customers affected by COVID-19 restrictions will lose power or heat due to financial hardship.
Also in New Jersey, the NJ Board of Public Utilities say all New Jersey phone providers, cable providers, and public gas and electric utility companies have suspended service shutoffs until further notice.
The New York State Governor took that action after receiving the following petition.
This is a petition to New York’s Governor @andrewcuomo, to suspend the collection of all rent, residential mortgage, & utility payments for at least 2 full months while were dealing with the COVID-19 crisis.
