We really can’t even put into words how hard the past year has been for the Metro Detroit food & beverage community. We keep losing titans of the game. Friends and mentors. Jack Aronson, Jason Heenan, Brian Croze. And now we have to take another hard hit. Greg Mudge was one of the kindest, most down to earth people we have ever met, and man did he make a delicious sandwich. We were so unbelievably excited when he carried Schramm’s at Mudgie’s. An honor absolute honor. We are truly heartbroken for Greg’s family.
We’re holding the family, friends and team of Greg Mudge in all our hearts today as we’ve learned of the passing of our good friend and Detroit legend. This news has hit very hard on us personally and among our industry. His passing is a loss to all Detroiters and beyond. Please take a moment during this holiday to be thankful for all the people who are special in your life.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear friend. My favorite memories are of him and Liza bringing in their tiny puppy and propping her up on the bar. It was hard to concentrate on work as the 3 of them brought a wave of joy.Patricia Savino wrote
Tragic loss. I’ve had some of the best sandwiches there. Just unbelievable that he should leave us at this young age. Hope his family can continue in his honor when they feel that can. Condolences to his family.Nancy Jett wrote
Greg Mudge , my father died at 46, when I was 15. I have now outlived him by almost 20 years. I miss him still .He’s buried next to my mother , his sister and his parents. There is space for me but I will be cremated. I would like some of my ashes sprinkled there discretely . I am happy for you that you find peace visiting the final resting place of your family.Pamela Grabowski wrote
Not so fast! You’re still a young man! I understand though. My Dad died at 51 from cancer. I miss him a lot but I’m so blessed to still have my Mom at 92 years young. You have been blessed with a great family, too!.Judy Gilmore Schafer wrote
Greg my Dad died at 51 from a heart attack and I was only 2 years old. Seems like
a lot of us lost a parent when we were very young. I’m not ready yet either!
