Death – Obituaries : (MARKET NEWS) – Friends and families are mourning the death of Hugh Waddell, former Rugby League player for RLFC. Scotland Rugby League and Great Britain Lions who recently passed away.
In addition to playing for RLFC. Scotland Rugby League and Great Britain Lions , he even won a cap for EnglandRL, which was against Wales at Ebbw Vale in 1984.
Many long-term fans of rugby league in South Wales will remember how he led the 1996 side to sixth in what is now League 1 and below is a photo of him in action against Bramley that season.

Shocked to hear the news that Hugh Waddell has sadly passed away. A fine player of both codes of the game, but achieving huge success in rugby league. He will be greatly missed by many. We were always delighted to see him back at Peel Croft and this photo was taken at our players reunion in 2017.

Such tragic news ahead of Great Britain’s game against New Zealand tomorrow morning that former prop forward Hugh Waddell has passed away aged only 60. He only responded to a photo I posted on an RL Facebook page earlier this week.
I will never forget his blockbusting performance in the 3rd test victory over the Aussies down under in ’88 and I hope the Lions wear black armbands in his memory for tomorrows game 😢
Some sad news, Hugh Waddell has passed away, another top player and very popular during his time at leeds but more importantly a lovely bloke who always had time for the fans, gone too soon #RIP
It is with great sadness that we have been informed that one of our longest serving staff members, Hugh Waddell has sadly passed away earlier today. Hugh has worked with us for 15 years, and was not only a valued staff member, but also a good friend of all the office management team. To say this news has come as a shock is an understatement. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
