The amazing P-39 Aircobra Ace Jack Curran Jones. Roy and I met Jack many years ago when Roy was working on the Aces Gold Star series. Roy wanted to paint Jack’s unusual aerial combat and we contacted Jack to set up a appointment. He was still active as a farmer, and lived near Salado, Texas.
I called him and he told me he had fallen and “he didn’t mind but he wished it was on the grass rather than cement!” I knew he would be someone every interesting to work with…We set up an appointment to meet at The Stagecoach Inn in Salado where we could eat breakfast and also interview him.
His restaurant of choice was the Stagecoach Inn, so that is where we met….Basically the first visit was to get to know him and his wife. We made the trek from Dallas to Salado to meet for breakfast at the Stage Coach Inn a few more times and then again when Roy completed the conceptual study for his approval. Here are a few photos and an interesting article about Jack’s combat…Blue Skies!!
