Vale A/Prof Jean-Pierre Macquart. We’re saddened to learn of J-P’s passing overnight. His inimitable character and passion for science will be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues, in Australia and around the world. Our thoughts are with his wife Sherine and family. pic.twitter.com/Az9E7FvmAz

Huge, game-changing, discovery from Jean-Pierre Macquart and the amazing ASKAP fast radio bursts team! These Aussies are the arch-rivals to our Canadian CHIME team, and damn, they’re tough to compete with! https://t.co/1MqScAhUei

Last night, we lost a great astronomer @ICRAR/@CurtinUni. Jean-Pierre Macquart was a truly unique person at our institute. I look back happily at many conversations during J-P’s weekly rounds in the PhD offices looking for a challenge from our “young creative minds” (his words).

I am shocked and deeply saddened at the news that my fellow astronomer Jean-Pierre Macquart has unexpectedly passed away.
“If I may” (as JP would say), let me offer a few brief thoughts amidst the sorrow.
