We have confirmed with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office that John Mark Byers was involved in a fatal traffic accident Thursday on Chambers Road in Millington, TN. Officials would not confirm who was killed or other details but his obituary confirms his death. Byers was a larger than life character who had a prominent role in media coverage of the case. When we have more details, we will pass them along. In the meantime, keep him and his family in your prayers. Mark Byers was the father of Christopher Byers, whose birthday will be on Tuesday.

I thought his behavior was odd when this happened. But now I have had my daughter brutally murdered. It makes you lose your mind and always wonder if any friends or family had anything to do with it. And its so frustrating and you feel so helpless. So I can now understand why he appeared strange acting then. I hope he is reunited in peace with his precious child. 🙏 for his family.

Kate Rae Sad news. He was made into such a scapegoat and his hurt and anger was front and centre for so long. Wish he had been able to find the truth but Hope he is finally at peace and can rest.

This brings tears to my eyes. It really does. He was a very eccentric man who certainly had his faults and demons, as we all do, but his grief and pain was taken advantage of. HBO and other media used him like a circus monkey for years then did their best to make the world believe he was a murderer.
I choose to believe that he’s in heaven now watching over Christopher, Stevie and Michael as they play and ride their bikes for eternity.
