My heart is heavy tonight at news of the passing of #JuliaReed, a Newsweek colleague from back in the day, a dear friend of 40 years—a superb writer, observer, hostess, raconteur, gourmet, gardener, preservationist, bon vivant and wry, smoky voice of the best of the South. pic.twitter.com/V8nQn7YTIg

An incredible obituary of an American original, Julia Reed. A brilliant @jmeacham piece on Julia’s life story, ending far too soon. May she keep watch over us all, with a cold cocktail and biting commentary to sustain us all. RIP. https://t.co/d73NCAPqHT

Sad to learn early this morning of the passing of writer and aesthete Julia Reed. Having read her many articles in Vogue I was amazed to meet Julia in my early 20s when she walked into Peter Patout’s antique store.
Julia lived nearby and she often visited and helped to arrange the antiques in the front windows into appealing and hilarious vignettes. She was very funny and larger than life to me then, and her parties were gorgeous. Here’s to a life well lived and very voluminous bookshelves! @degasgallery @peter.patout @juliaevansreed @ogdenmuseum .
