It’s hard to just type out something. Our words don’t seem to give Katherine McKee near enough recognition, and it feels cheap.

She deserves a medal on a platform, which I know she is receiving in Heaven, but I still feel she needs one here on Earth.

She would want to educate people on the dangers of skin cancer, the importance of prevention, and early detection. She would want to help prevent others from going through what she went through. So please, take it serious. It can happen to anyone, at any age.

She wouldn’t want a spot light on her, but she was a shining example of kindness and grace. A true lady. She was an amazing friend, an extraordinary mother and aunt, and a cherished daughter, sister, niece and sister-in-law.

She was passionate about humanitarian efforts and instilling her wisdom into her children.

There are only a few that truly grasp how hard she fought to stay here with us. She was nothing less than the strongest warrior I’ve ever met, and she fought without complaining.

Her friends and family will forever spread her testimony and stories to her children and their children, so they know all she did to be here with them and her impact on all of us.

We’d rather her be here baking bread and sharing delicious recipes.

We’d rather her be here educating us on all things wine.

We’d rather her be here giving “shugies” to her babies and our babies.

We’d rather her be here smiling joyfully and providing subtle comedic relief.

We’d rather her be here traveling and being able to look up at the sky.

But, I know death is an ending to her suffering, and that she is whole again in Spirit. She is free and pure of all pain and sadness.

However, the hole in our hearts will remain here a lifetime. A crater that memories can’t satisfy. We’d rather you be here Katherine, because you made all of us better people.

We love you more than words can express. We will give shugies and love harder and deeper because you taught us that.
