Sumner Sr. has been named a person of interest in the murder of Molly Bish, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. announced today. Sumner, who died in 2016, is being investigated in the 2000 murder of the 16-year-old after investigators recently received new information. Sumner, born in 1945, was active in the Central Massachusetts area from 1960 through 2016. He was known to operate auto repair shops in the Spencer, Leicester and Worcester areas. Sumner lived in Spencer prior to his death. Investigators are seeking tips from the public looking specifically for information relative to Sumner’s employment practices/personnel, associates, vehicles, travel and any known habits. This announcement comes just weeks before the 21st anniversary of Molly’s disappearance from Comins Pond in Warren on June 27, 2000. Molly was a resident of Warren and was working as a lifeguard at the pond. Her disappearance set off a massive search. Her remains were found nearly three years later in the woods of Whiskey Hill in nearby Palmer. You can not defame a dead person, so this will be all over the news… and he is not here to defend himself, they can not put him on trial, so why did they sensationalize this? The family should have been told, the MSP should have put out a statement that they believe they know the killer but are not naming him/her as they are deceased. MSP can investigate til the end of time but unless they turn up a accessory before or after the fact, or an accomplice, nothing is going to change. If the MSP had done their job, this “person of interest” would have been identified and prosecuted 30 years ago.

Unsure of the “new information” but if this is the case that he did it and it can be proven… they sure owe her boyfriend at the time, and his family a HUGE apology… The case apparently ruined all of their lives to some large degree.
