Awful news re: death of umpire Eric Cooper. Didnt know him but shared a super-early a.m. flight w/ him before Gm 3 of ALDS. At gate saw him walk over to an older guy in a wheelchair who was clearly disabled & wearing MLB gear & started talking ball w/ him. Seemed like a sweet guy

Oh how I’m going to miss that.
My deepest sympathies to Eric’s family and friends, there are so many!
Rest In Peace #56, you will be missed.
I don’t run across umpires often. But I met Eric Cooper in spring training 2001 and would get to say hello every now and then. Nice man who took a lot of pride in his job. Great MLB piece few years ago when he made his first WS crew. Sad news today. RIP Coop.

Eric Cooper was one of my favorite umpires to work with! I could always tell that he was giving an honest effort and all he wanted to do was to get it right without an ego or attitude! Rest In Peace Coop!

A very good umpire passed away. His name is Eric Cooper. You might not know a great deal about him but he should hold a high place in White Sox lore. You see he was behind the plate in Mark Buehrle’s no hitter and Mark’s Perfect Game. He’ll be missed

Sorry to hear about the death of @MLB umpire Eric Cooper from a reported heart attack. He had just worked the Yanks-Twins ALDS, and was “a hard worker on the field and a popular member of our staff,” commissioner Rob Manfred said. He was just 52. pic.twitter.com/Hpp7IRLaVU
