Phoenix Police Shooting Video : Suspect Morris Jones shot 5 Phoenix Police Officers.

Five Phoenix police officers are recovering after an early morning fatal shooting that left a man and a woman dead near Lower Buckeye and Broadway roads of the city.

A Phoenix suspect fired multiple shots at officers who tried to rescue a baby that had been placed outside. Five were shot and four others were hurt by shrapnel or ricocheting bullets, police said. All were expected to survive and the baby wasn’t hurt.

Police identify 36-year-old Morris Jones as the deceased suspect in shooting in Phoenix that injured five officers.

Phoenix police chief told the press that four officers are hospitalized, 1 in surgery. Other officers require surgery at later time. After the shooting, some of the injured officers remained on scene to assist and sought medical treatment later.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED ?

The incident happened in the area closed to 54th Avenue between Lower Buckeye and Broadway roads shortly after 2 a.m.

According to Phoenix police officer , Sgt. Andy Williams , the shooting started with a 911 call about a woman who had been shot. A single officer was the first to arrive and was met by a man, who was later identified as 36-year-old Morris Jones. “He was actually invited by the suspect,” Williams said. “As he approached the doorway, the suspect ambushed him with a gun and shot him several times.” That wounded officer then got to safety and backup shortly after. AZ FAMILY NEWS reported.

Standoff

Jones then went inside the house and wouldn’t come out. SWAT officers tried to negotiate with him. When they eventually went inside, they found Jones dead. They also found the woman, who was taken to the hospital where she later died. She has not been identified.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego lauds the Phoenix police officers who responded to this morning’s shooting that injured nine officers. She says a baby is alive thanks to their actions.
