Please, #SayHisName – Police Officer/Brother Manny Ortiz – not just “RIP” or a run of ridiculous emojis. When you SAY HIS NAME, you will REMEMBER HIS NAME and A HERO REMEMBERED … NEVER DIES

On Saturday evening, just before 1900hours, Ofc. Ortiz was heading into work, driving his personal vehicle, and was traveling on Empire Blvd in Penfield when his vehicle apparently drifted and crossed into oncoming traffic before landing in the ravine.

Passing motorists immediately stopped and went into the ravine to try and help Ofc. Ortiz.

Sadly, there was nothing they could do to save our Brother. Police Officer Manuel “Manny” Ortiz succumbed to unknown cause and was pronounced on scene.

There is an ongoing investigation into what caused Ofc. Ortiz to drift and crash. We will update once Medical Examiner and accident reconstruction teams complete their investigation.

Ofc. Ortiz was a 22 year LE veteran to the RPD. Throughout his career. Brother Manny wore many hats to include: Patrol Officer- 17 years, FTO, Defensive tactics instructor, Firearms instructor, PR- 24 Instructor, Capstun instructor, Hispanic Diversity instructor, DWI certified, BTO certified, Speed radar certified, DCJS Armed Guard instructor, Certified General Topics instructor and more.

His current assignment was with the Community Affairs Division working as a crime prevention officer. He was also a Firearms Instructor for BlackHawk Training Academy.

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the families, both of blood and of Blue, to all first responders who came running to assist and especially to all the citizens who tried so desperately to help.
