This weekend has been marked by great personal loss to those of us who knew and loved Rahwa Habte and Sarah Leyrer. Both from different walks of life. Both loved community, organized community and staunchly fought for what was right. Both gone too soon. Rest in Power. /1 pic.twitter.com/DGbOwWV0Ty

Rahwa Habte was one of the most generous, honest, caring people I’ve met. The communities and institutions she built have made Seattle what it is today, and her legacy will last forever. I’ll miss running into her at the park, and her putting me in my place on the internet.

all sorts of emotions about the passing of my dear friend Rahwa Habte. she was instrumental in keeping Black cultural and community space in the Central District and Seattle in general in the face of gentrification and blacklisting.
I’m gonna miss Rahwa. A lot. She was one of the kindest people I ever met with a real heart of gold. She supported my music in it’s very early stages and her legacy will live on forever.
