We learned of the deceased through the following tribute posted on social media.,
Just saw that Ray Hennig has passed away.
Ray Hennig has passed away. His son, Steve Hennig, called to tell me that his father died Thursday in Austin of natural causes. He was 91 years old. Ray opened Heart of Texas Music in Waco in the early 60’s. An Austin location followed in 1973. His store on South Lamar closed in 2012. Of course, it was Ray who sold Stevie Ray Vaughan his “Number One” guitar in 1974. It had previously belonged to Christopher Cross. Ray Hennig was a father figure and a great friend to many Austin musicians. His son says that a celebration of Ray’s life will be held at an appropriate time in the future.
