Rosine VIEYRA SOGLO Death – Obituary – Former first lady of Benin Republic dies .

Rosine Vieyra Soglo is no more. The former first lady, wife of former president Nicéphore Dieudonné Soglo passed away this Sunday, according to the following statements posted on social media on July 25. 2021.

Who is Rosine Vieyra Soglo

Rosine Vieyra Soglo (born March 7, 1934) is a Beninese politician. She was a member of the National Assembly from 1995 to 2019 and was also a member of the Pan African Parliament. Wife of Nicéphore Soglo, she was First Lady of Benin between 1991 and 1996.
She came from an Afro-Brazilian family. In 1946, she went to France to study in high school then law. She worked as a bailiff between 1965 and 1968.
She married politician Nicéphore Soglo, who became president of the Republic of Benin in 1991.
Political career
In 1992, she created Benin’s Renaissance Party [3]. The following year, the party issued a statement encouraging her husband’s supporters to join the new movement. ..
In 2007, she joined the Alliance for a Democratic Dynamics (ADD) coalition with Antoine Idji Kolawolé and Bruno Amoussou. The ADD is running for parliamentary elections in March 2007 and gets 20 seats of deputies.
Following the April 2011 parliamentary elections, Rosine Vieyra Soglo became the president of the RDA. However, during the poll, she had joined the coalition L ‘ Union makes the Nation, making promises to improve the quality of government and on the subject of housing.
In the April 2015 parliamentary elections, she was re-elected deputy in the 16th constituency under the banner Renaissance of Benin. A senior of the National Assembly, she presided over the first debates during the meeting of May 19, 2015 before the election of the president of the Assembly.
In 2019, through the second special session of the National Assembly, she decided to terminate her term of deputy because of her vision loss.
