We learned of the deceased through the following tribute posted on social media by his daughter.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my father, Roy C. We appreciate all the love and support from everyone. Please keep us in your prayers as we grieve the passing of the most loved and amazing man in the world. You all knew his as the legendary Roy C. I knew him as the greatest dad in the world. Who is Roy C ?

Roy Charles Hammond was born August 3, 1939 and was a southern soul singer, songwriter and record executive, best known for his 1965 hit, “Shotgun Wedding.” Another song, “Impeach the President,” which he recorded and produced with a high school group, the Honey Drippers, has had one of the most sampled drum tracks in hip hop music. Since 1979, he released a string of soul singles and albums, on his own Three Gems record label, initially based in New York and later in Allendale, South Carolina. Hammond wrote most of the songs that appear on his more than 125 records. Hammond also owned and ran a record shop in Allendale, called Carolina Record Distributors. According to DJ HOT
