Nina Kraft has died, according to a statement posted online on Aug. 19, 2020.
We learned of the deceased through the following tribute posted on social media.,It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I’m informing you of the passing of Nina Kraft, who was a top runner in the Tallahassee Marathon, being the women’s winner in 2009 (2:45:06) and 2013 (2:52:48). In 2011, she placed 2nd (2:51:43), 2014 she placed 3rd (2:58:06), and in 2015 she placed 4th (2:55:13). She was the first masters finisher in all of these races. Her winning time in 2009, when she was 40 years old, remains the record in the event for a masters female runner. I remember well that she was awarded with the prize money for being 1st female and for establishing a new course record; a couple of nights later I woke up in the middle of the night, woke Jay up, and said, “She broke the masters female record too, so we need to send her another check!”. I think that will be the first and last time that happens here.During the time Jay and I were directing the race, we were always glad to welcome Nina back. Our race was a little bit of a second chance for her, after she had served a suspension period for use of EPO (which she had very readily admitted to and was no longer coached by the same individual) in her first athletic love: she had been a high level professional triathlete. Everyone deserves a second chance, and she was very appreciative of this and really helped our race get the notice of the running community.Nina was a native of Germany. Her enthusiasm for running, sport, her loved Weimaraners, warmth and humor will be greatly missed.
