We learned of the deceased through the following tribute posted on social media.,

Like everyone else we are sad to hear of the passing of our HLM, Sandy Cortmann, aged 97.
In 1944 he was a member of the 3rd Parachute Battalion and fought in Arnhem and Oosterbeek, being taken POW towards the end of the fighting in Oosterbeek.
