Steve Rayner died recently after a two year plus battle with non-Hodgkins’ lymphoma. I am sure a great deal will be said about his academic and intellectual prowess, but above all Steve was a a very great friend. He exuded love and compassion to those around him. He was also remarkably capable on everyday matters. I remember coming back from a meal with him in Tooting ,where he then lived, and a woman had a grand mal fit just outside the tube station. It was Steve who took charge of the situation, doing the right things and calming down the distressed woman. His style of argument was rational, logical and empty of rancour – something that we are sadly looking at present.

Isn’t this the SF Rayner who facilitated the Al Gore/IPCC scam? Billions of pounds and trillions of dollars have been wasted. Where was the challenge? Not from his colleagues evidently. I suppose when the extortion is so extreme all the snouts are distracted?
