Ava DuVernay tweeted this. On this exact day 30 years ago, a woman was raped in Central Park. Five black + brown boys were framed for her rape. The story you know is the lie that police, prosecutors and Donald Trump told you. WHEN THEY SEE US is the story of the boys from their eyes and their hearts.

“That’s me, coming to bring you home.” (Busted me wide open.) Realized while watching, in the most respectful manner, that’s what you’re doing via cinema, for Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise. Xx
To know that Donald tried to get them the death penalty, has always boggled my mind why any black person would ever support or vote for him. SMH. Thank you for telling this story
@ava. I can’t wait to see it!I don’t think a lot of people millennial and younger even knew. I had to watch a CNN documentary about the Nineties to find out about this, as well as her film 13th. We need more documentaries that tell the truth, and they should be mandatory screening for everyone.
I lived in NYC til I moved to L.A. in 2012. Through a near bankruptcy of NYC, 9/11, the financial crisis, this is the worst thing that ever happened. Telling the truth of stories like this is when my industry does God’s work.
@ava , thank you.
